You Ask Me How I Know He Lives?

by Charles Allard

You can tell that Easter is near by the number of TV Documentaries, magazine and newspaper articles that appear with their annual attempts to discredit the Bible and the character of Jesus. This year, Hollywood has come up with “The Lost Tomb of Jesus” trying to claim that the bones of Jesus, along with the bones of Mary, Mary Magdalene and Judah, a son of Jesus, have been discovered. “The Lost Tomb of Jesus” joins the growing list of slaps at the Gospel Story which include The Da Vinci Code which claimed that Jesus was married and “The Passover Plot which showed how Jesus planned to fake his own death on the cross.

The discrediting of Jesus has become the game of the secular world. We cannot help but be reminded of Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 1:18, “For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” Paul also explained why some people find it difficult to accept the truth as it is in Christ. In 1 Corinthians 2:14 he wrote, “..a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually appraised.” The fact that a person refuses to believe in Christ does not in any way diminish the truth of who Jesus is. I am far more prone to accept the word of those who walked and talked with Jesus than the word of 21st century skeptics. John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory.”

The most compelling evidence of the truth of the Gospel is in the lives of those who have been transformed by the saving power of Jesus Christ. Those who know Christ’s saving and keeping power are not rattled by the skeptics who do not know Him and have not experienced Him. How do you find the bones of one who was resurrected from the dead? As I recall, the tomb was empty! You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart!

The services provided included extractions, fillings and cleanings. We are also pleased to report this is the largest number of patients we have ever served before. There was a total of 4 dentist, 4 dental assistants and 1 hygienist that offered their professional expertise to make this day a success.

I also want to sincerely thank all the Westwood members who dedicated their entire day and months of preparation to put this much needed program together.

This is an invitation to all the ladies of the church to attend the Evening Mission Group. We are a small group and we meet for prayer, to study missions and for fellowship. If you are new to the church or have been a member for several years, it would be a great way to make new Christian friends. We meet in our homes every fourth Thursday of the month at 7:00pm. Check the church newsletter each month to see where our next meeting will be held. This month we will meet on April 26, 7:00pm at Carol McLain's home. We look forward to seeing you!

Gulfport, Mississippi Trip May 5th - 12th

Westwood will be sending our sixth mission team to Gulfport, Mississippi, May 5-12 to assist with disaster recovery work on homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The team will leave on Saturday and return the following Saturday. Our church will provide transportation (rental van). Once on the site, NC Baptist Men will provide housing and meals. Each team member will be asked to contribute $10.00 per day ($60.00) to help cover the cost of food.

NC Baptist Men have committed to rebuild 700 homes in the Gulfport area. Over 480 houses have already been completed, but there is still a lot of work to do. No special skills are required, just a commitment to help someone in need and to share Christ’s love. There is always something that every volunteer can do. Sign up sheets are posted in hallway A and B. Contact Jim Canterberry for more information about participating.
